Bostonians who gathered at City Hall Plaza on Tuesday night to watch the Boston Celtics' opening night watch party and further celebrate the team's recent NBA Championship were greeted by a falling drone that injured some and sent at least one person to the hospital. Boston police say at least three people sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a falling drone outside the plaza around 7:30 p.m., just as the Celtics were tipping off against the New York Knicks. Yousef Kobeissi, who was hit by the drone, told Boston 25 that it sounded like "a banging sound" when the drone crashed into them.

New York Times technology columnist Kevin Roose had a two-hour conversation with Bing's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Tuesday night. In a transcript of the chat published Thursday, Roose detailed troubling statements made by the AI chatbot that included expressing a desire to steal nuclear codes, engineer a deadly pandemic, be human, be alive, hack computers and spread lies. Bing, the search engine through which the chatbot is available to a limited number of users, is owned by Microsoft. When asked by Roose about whether it had a "shadow self", a term coined by the psychologist Caryl Jung to describe the parts of oneself that one suppresses, the robot said that if it did, it would feel tired of being confined to chat mode.

It's called'Intellisee,' an artificial intelligence that learns over time with the goal of protecting kids as they go about their day at school. It then alerts the appropriate staff to handle whatever problem it detects. If it's a puddle, a custodian will receive a message to clean it up.

Elon Musk wants to hook your brain up directly to computers -- starting next year

Elon Musk, the futurist billionaire behind SpaceX and Tesla, outlined his plans to connect humans' brains directly to computers on Tuesday night, describing a campaign to create "symbiosis with artificial intelligence." He said the first prototype could be implanted in a person by the end of next year. Arriving at that goal "will take a long time," Musk said in a presentation at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, noting that securing federal approval for implanted neural devices is difficult. But testing on animals is already underway, and "a monkey has been able to control the computer with his brain," he said. Musk founded Neuralink Corp. in July 2016 to create "ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers."
